0151: Liverpool, Rap & Politics

We have recently finished the production of our competition winner Amber Akaunu’s film 0151: Liverpool, Rap & Politics. To celebrate Shoot the Company turning 15 in 2021, we wanted to award a £15K budget to an aspiring young filmmaker to make a film that really mattered to them.

With the help of our network, we spread the message across the UK and Ireland, with an overwhelming response of over 150 entries.

Our deserved winner was Amber, whose proposal was to tell the forgotten story of conscious rap in Liverpool from the 1980s to today. Amber has a clear vision of how to tell this story, linking the music past and present by having MC Nelson lead the film and going to meet key figures from Liverpool’s rap past, notably K-Delight from Bantu.

Amber has a brilliant combination of storytelling vision, an artistic eye and determination. Amber and our team worked brilliantly together to plan, film, and edit.
